Ukraine Develops Domestic Long-Range Missiles: The FP-7 and FP-9 Projects.
Development of the FP-7 and FP-9 Ballistic Missiles
According to TSN.ua: Ukraine is advancing its own ballistic missile projects, the FP-7 and FP-9, which are designed to be more cost-effective alternatives to American ATACMS missiles. The FP-7 has already undergone successful testing, while the FP-9, with a potential range of up to 800 km, is currently in the trial phase. This domestic development effort highlights Ukraine's push to bolster its long-range strike capabilities amid the ongoing war.
FP-7 Missile Specifications
The capabilities of the FP-7 are notable: it has a range of up to 200 km and carries a 150 kg warhead. The missile reaches a top speed of 1500 m/s, with an average cruising speed of 800 m/s. It boasts a high degree of accuracy, with a circular error probable (CEP) of just 14 meters, and a maximum flight time of 250 seconds. On February 27, Denis Shtiller demonstrated a successful test of the FP-7, marking a significant milestone for the program.
In a related context, explosions were reported on February 20 in the city of Votkinsk, Russia, located over 1400 km from the Ukrainian border. Denis Shtiller, commenting on the missile projects, stated:
"This will be an analog to ATACMS, possibly with an even larger warhead. But it will cost at least half as much." - Denis Shtiller
This statement underscores the ambitious goals behind Ukraine's domestic ballistic missile development.
The progress on the FP-7 and FP-9 missiles signals a growing indigenous defense capability for Ukraine. Enhancing missile technology is becoming a crucial factor for national security and could potentially alter the strategic balance in the region's conflict dynamics. For Western observers, this represents a significant step in Ukraine's efforts to achieve greater self-reliance in a critical area of defense.
