Ukraine launches border control in train cars: travel to the EU without stops

According to ТСН: International trains for Ukrainian citizens will receive new advantages: border and customs control will take place directly in the train cars, without delays at the border.

This was announced by the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Yulia Svyrydenko, on Telegram.

"We are making international travel more convenient for Ukrainians. Today, we made a decision that will allow for border and customs control directly in the train cars — without long stops at the border and without unnecessary stress for passengers," Svyrydenko noted.

This approach is already being tested on certain Intercity+ trains on the route to Poland, where customs and border officers conduct passenger control while the train is approaching the border. The government plans to gradually expand this practice to sleeper cars of international night routes.

New Routes

  • Kyiv — Przemyśl

  • Kyiv — Chełm

According to Svyrydenko, the accelerated control on these routes will start operating from January 2026, after which it is planned to extend it to other trains on the mentioned routes.

It is also worth noting that from December 14, the launch of the international night train EN Carpatia is planned, which will ensure direct connections between Przemyśl and cities such as Munich, Vienna, Bratislava, and Budapest.

These innovations will significantly simplify and expedite travel for Ukrainians abroad, allowing passengers to enjoy the comfort of their journey instead of enduring long waits at the border. The implementation of customs control in train cars will be an important step in the development of international connections and improving services for passengers.
