Passenger Traffic Surges Ahead of Easter

According to TSN.ua: In the days leading up to Easter, the Ukrainian-Polish border is experiencing a notable surge in passenger traffic, causing significant congestion. On March 29, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reported that 107,000 people crossed the border within a single day, with the majority entering the country. According to Andriy Demchenko, the rising passenger flow at the Polish border is driven by Ukrainians returning home en masse for the holidays.

Pressure Points at Border Crossings

The heaviest congestion is concentrated at these crossing points:

  • Shehyni
  • Krakovets
  • Rava-Ruska

Meanwhile, the State Customs Service of Ukraine has released a list of less congested checkpoints, which includes:

  • Uhryniv - Dolhobyczów
  • Rava-Ruska - Hrebenne
  • Hrushiv - Budomierz
  • Nyzhankovychi - Malhowice
  • Smilnytsia - Krościenko

These figures highlight a spike in passenger travel ahead of the holidays, fueled by increased mobility among Ukrainians.

The pre-Easter increase in passenger traffic underscores a broader trend of Ukrainians prioritizing home-based holiday celebrations. With mobility on the rise, authorities are urging travelers to opt for less congested border points to avoid long waits and queues. This situation also points to the need for optimized border service operations during peak holiday seasons.
