Ukraine's Postal Service Severs Ties with Fashion Brand Following Public Outcry.
Ukrposhta Ends Partnership with Rikky Hype
According to TSN.ua: Ukraine's state postal service, Ukrposhta, has terminated its collaboration with the clothing brand Rikky Hype. The decision followed a significant backlash on social media against a joint Valentine's Day advertising campaign. Ukrposhta's General Director, Igor Smilyansky, addressed the controversy surrounding the campaign, issuing an apology to child protection specialists. This incident highlights the challenges state-owned enterprises face when targeting younger demographics.
The campaign, which cost 600,000 hryvnias, drew public outrage. Smilyansky acknowledged the post was a mistake for which he takes personal responsibility.
"This is our mistake. Primarily my personal one," he stated. While cooperation with Rikky Hype is now halted, Smilyansky emphasized this does not preclude future partnerships with youth-oriented brands.
Criticism Over Targeting Youth Brands
The criticism directed at Ukrposhta centered on its partnership with brands targeting a young audience. Commenters argued that the postal service, whose customer base is predominantly pensioners and older individuals, should not collaborate with such brands.
"This is age discrimination," noted Smilyansky.Speaking as a citizen, he expressed gratitude to those working in child protection, and on behalf of Ukrposhta, he apologized for the situation.
This episode underscores the importance for public institutions to consider societal sentiment when executing marketing campaigns, especially when engaging with youth brands. As a state-owned company, Ukrposhta must account for its core audience and respond appropriately to criticism to maintain public trust. The termination of the Rikky Hype partnership may signal a need for more cautious marketing strategy planning in the future.
