According to ТСН: While official discussions about peace unfold in Europe and the USA, unusual events are happening behind the scenes. Ukraine's chief negotiator Rustem Umerov recently held several meetings that go beyond traditional diplomacy.

Three visits to Miami

In recent weeks, Umerov visited Miami three times for negotiations with Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff. In addition, he also held closed meetings with FBI Director Kesh Patel and his deputy Dan Bongino.

This situation causes concern among Western officials due to the lack of details, the publication notes. Ukraine's ambassador to the USA Olga Stefanishina confirmed the meetings but emphasized that Umerov discussed only national security matters that are confidential. An FBI representative also noted 'common interests in law enforcement', adding that the topic of corruption in Ukraine was mentioned but not central.

Why this causes concern

Concerns arise from two main reasons:

  1. The identities of the FBI leaders. Kesh Patel previously called for an investigation into the use of U.S. aid to Ukraine, and Dan Bongino accused Zelensky of 'hiding the corruption of the Biden family'.

  2. Context. Ukraine is undergoing a loud corruption scandal in the energy sector, due to which Andriy Yermak lost his position as head of the President's Office.

Some sources suggest that Kyiv may be seeking a 'amnesty' from the FBI from possible corruption charges. Others express concerns that Trump is using the bureau as a pressure tool, threatening investigations that could force Ukrainian authorities to agree to territorial concessions.

'Chaos' in negotiations

Experts believe that the involvement of the FBI in diplomatic processes is nonsense.

'It is unusual for a person in such a position to meet with the leadership of the FBI,' noted Sam Charap, an analyst at RAND Corporation, which advises the U.S. government and Pentagon.

The situation is complicated by the fact that several groups are approaching Ukraine from Trump's side: the State Department (Rubio), businessmen (Witkoff), relatives (Kushner), and now also law enforcement officials (Patel). This creates confusion and chaos, making it increasingly difficult for Kyiv to defend its interests.

Recall that Zelensky revealed the details of negotiations for peace in Ukraine and what is happening behind the scenes. According to the president, December 12 was an active day for diplomatic contacts and international consultations.

Given all these events, the importance of clear and transparent communication between all parties becomes increasingly significant. The confrontation of interests and the unpredictability of the situation may significantly influence the further development of Ukrainian-American relations and the state of negotiations regarding peace in Ukraine.
