Single Father of a Young Girl Conscripted Despite Caregiver Role

According to Novyny.live: A 34-year-old man who had been raising his five-year-old daughter on his own was conscripted in Kryvyi Rih. At the time of his mobilization, the child was left without parental care, as the mother had abandoned the family three years earlier. The girl was at kindergarten when her father was taken for military service.

On June 30, Ukrainian lawmaker Dmytro Lubinets publicly reported the case. He noted that the man had twice applied for a deferment but was turned down both times. In response, the Verkhovna Rada summoned the head of the Kryvyi Rih Territorial Recruitment Center (TCC) to provide explanations regarding the father's mobilization. The TCC director is required to appear on July 1 at 1:00 PM.

“Mobilization is essential for a country defending itself. But a state’s strength is measured not only by its ability to act quickly—but also by its ability to see the human being behind every decision.”

Since the start of the year, the Ombudsman’s Office has received over three thousand complaints about TCC staff, highlighting growing public concern over mobilization processes and their impact on families. The case of a single father being drafted underscores the need to consider personal circumstances when making mobilization decisions.

Social Consequences of Mobilization

This incident reflects a broader challenge faced by many families in Ukraine amid the ongoing war. While mobilization is necessary, it raises serious questions about balancing military needs with social responsibilities. It is crucial that decision-makers take into account the personal situations of those conscripted, as these choices can deeply affect their families—especially children.
