According to inkorr.com: The government is actively preparing for a challenging heating season and has already gathered 1.36 billion euros out of the required 1.9 billion for the purchase of gas for winter. This was reported by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko during a special closed meeting with journalists.
“We have secured 1.36 billion euros for gas procurement to prepare for winter – in particular, this includes funds from the European Investment Bank, EBRD, funds from Norway, and funds from the EU. We understand the sources of 70% of the funds and cover the remaining 30% – part of it is grants, part is loans, as well as thanks to the Ukrainian banking sector,” emphasized the head of government.
She also noted that in August-September, more than 1.5 billion UAH was allocated for the protection of energy facilities in the conflict zone, reserves of materials have been provided for rapid restoration, and cooperation with international partners regarding air defense systems continues.
Preparation for the heating season
Deputy Prime Minister for the Restoration of Ukraine Oleksiy Kuleba noted that the heating season has begun according to plan. He reported that work to protect energy facilities has been ongoing continually since 2023.
“The activities provided by the Recovery Agency together with Ukrenergo include the protection of 22 substations with 46 elements. Of these, 38 elements are already ready. Eight more are 90% ready and will be completed by the end of the year,” Kuleba clarified. He also emphasized that the enemy side constantly changes the tactics of attacks, and accordingly, adjustments are made to protection plans.
Overall, Ukraine's readiness for the heating season has been noted with the support of international partners, as well as the presence of significant reserves for energy efficiency and response to unforeseen circumstances.
Currently, it is important for Ukraine not only to ensure a reliable supply of energy resources but also to adapt its energy facilities to new security conditions. In the context of armed conflict and an unstable situation, support from international partners becomes critically important. State authorities continue to take measures to ensure energy stability throughout the winter season.
