A cat with a symbolic name, gifted by Putin, has died in Japan.
The cat that Vladimir Putin gifted to Akita Governor Norihisa Satake died on Tuesday, December 2, according to Japan news.
The cat was named Mir and was a representative of the Siberian breed. He was sent to Japan in February 2013 when the governor sent Putin an Akita dog named Yume as a thank you for Russia's support after the earthquake in Eastern Japan in 2011.
Governor Satake is known for his passion for cats and raised Mir along with other cats in his home. Mir lived approximately 64 years in human equivalent and also suffered from illness.
The dog Yume, who was supposed to live with Putin, has not been seen publicly since December 2016.
Putin apologized to former German Chancellor Angela Merkel for the incident with the dog in his residence during a meeting with journalists in Astana. He promised that this would not happen again if Merkel visited him again. This situation arose after the former chancellor of Germany mentioned in her new memoir that during negotiations with Putin in Sochi, his Labrador entered the room, despite her fear of dogs.
