Emergency power outages in several regions: consequences of the night attack by the Russian Federation

According to ТСН: On Saturday, emergency power outages were implemented in several regions of Ukraine due to the night attack by Russian troops.

As reported by the press service of NEC 'Ukrenergo':

‘The previously published schedules for blackout in the regions where emergency outages have been applied are currently inactive. Energy workers are working to restore stable electricity supply as soon as possible.’

Power outages will be lifted after the stabilization of the energy system.

Situation in the regions

In Kharkiv, emergency outages have also been implemented. As reported by the city council, this is done to stabilize the energy system. The outages may last for several hours.

In Dnipropetrovsk region, emergency outages were also introduced according to the instruction from 'Ukrenergo'. The duration of these outages is currently unknown.

‘Sumyoblenergo’ reports on emergency outages in the Sumy region. At 13:10, GAV was introduced for stages 3 and 4 (a total of four stages were de-energized).

In the Poltava region, an emergency outage schedule has also been in effect since 12:21. The company emphasized that electricity supply will be restored after the emergency situation is resolved.

Impressions from the night attack

During the night on December 6, the Russian Federation struck energy facilities in eight regions. As a result of the attack, ignitions occurred at generation, distribution, and transmission facilities. Infrastructure was damaged in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Lviv, Odesa, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, Mykolaiv, and Kharkiv regions.

Due to this attack, 'Ukrenergo' warns that the volume of outages will increase throughout the day. Hourly outages are in effect across all regions of Ukraine, with 2.5 – 3 stages simultaneously, whereas they initially planned limitations of 0.5 to 2.5 stages.

Emergency power outages have become a daily challenge for many Ukrainians as the situation in the country remains complex. The measures implemented aim to ensure the stability of the energy system, which is suffering due to numerous attacks on infrastructure. It is encouraging that energy workers are making every effort to quickly restore electricity supply.
