Scientists have found a new plant extract against arthritis: research results.
According to ТСН: First, specialists conducted a chemical analysis of the ethanolic extract from the aerial parts of the plant to identify its bioactive components. Next, the extract was tested on arthritis models to assess its anti-inflammatory properties.
'We also conducted toxicological studies under my supervision,' explains Associate Professor of Structural and Functional Biology at the Institute of Biological Sciences, Botucatu campus, UNESP, Ariela Cristina Arena. 'In the arthritis models, we observed a reduction in swelling, improvement in joint condition, and modulation of inflammatory mediators, indicating the antioxidant and tissue-protective effects of the extract.'
Researchers emphasize that the results of the study provide a solid foundation for further preclinical trials and open the prospect of creating plant-based medications for the treatment of arthritis and other inflammatory diseases. However, they caution that currently, the extract cannot be used in clinical practice.
