UK Extends Visa Renewal Window for Ukrainians from 28 to 90 Days.
UK Relaxes Visa Renewal Rules for Ukrainians
According to TSN.ua: The United Kingdom has significantly extended the period during which Ukrainians who fled the war can apply to renew their visas. The deadline for submitting a renewal application has been increased from 28 days to 90 days before a visa's expiration. This adjustment is part of the UK's support scheme for Ukrainians, which has been operational since 2022. The entire scheme has been extended for a further two years, offering greater security to Ukrainian refugees residing in Britain.
Under the scheme, initial permission to stay in the UK is typically granted for three years, after which it can be extended for an additional 18 months. According to the latest figures, over 300,000 Ukrainian citizens have sought sanctuary and support in the UK since the full-scale invasion began. This policy change aims to reduce administrative pressure on displaced families.
Government spokesperson Mike Tapp emphasized: 'The UK will remain a safe haven for Ukrainians for as long as the war continues.'
Financial Aid and European Solidarity
In a separate move, the British government has prepared a £5 million support package to aid investigations into war crimes in Ukraine. This initiative underscores the UK's commitment to supporting Ukraine during this difficult period.
Demonstrating broader European solidarity, authorities in Ireland have also automatically extended the immigration permissions for Ukrainian refugees until March 4, 2027.
These measures collectively reflect the UK's ongoing commitment to supporting Ukrainian refugees seeking safe haven. The extended visa application window, coupled with financial backing for war crimes investigations, shows concrete governmental action. The parallel extension in Ireland highlights a united European front in offering sustained support to Ukrainian citizens for the duration of the conflict.
