Wedding in India canceled due to fight: guests argued over the dessert rasgulla.
According to ТСН: A wedding reception in the city of Bodh Gaya, Bihar, India, ended in a mass brawl that led to the cancellation of the festivities. The reason was the lack of the traditional dessert known as rasgulla.
According to local media reports, the conflict initially arose between the bride's and groom's relatives. Guests from the bride's side were dissatisfied because the dessert on the tables ran out too quickly. The groom's side perceived this as an insult, prompting a verbal dispute that quickly escalated into a fight.
Sequence of Events
The situation spiraled out of control within just a few minutes: video recordings show people throwing chairs, fighting, and pulling each other by their clothes.
The bride's father, Suresh Prasad, noted that the conflict was inevitable as tensions between the families had been rising even before the incident due to demands for additional dowry.
"They started demanding more money, and after that, they beat our relatives. There are injured parties, we turned to the police," he said.
In turn, the groom's father, Mahendra Prasad, assured that the main problem was indeed the lack of dessert.
"Everything happened because of the rasgullas - there simply weren't enough. We did not demand any dowry," the man said.
Outcome of the Conflict
After the brawl, the bride's family decided not to continue the ceremony, and the newlyweds were unable to exchange vows. The police confirmed that there are injured parties on both sides and an investigation is underway.
The groom's mother also reported that during the scuffle, jewelry given to the bride was stolen from their family and added that all expenses for the banquet were allegedly covered by their side.
At Indian weddings, traditionally, most expenses are borne by the bride's family, but recently more couples are choosing to share financing or cover expenses independently. Nevertheless, disputes over dowry remain a pressing issue.
This incident illustrates the complexity of modern Indian weddings, where traditions and financial demands sometimes become the cause of serious conflicts. The struggle to uphold traditions and the actualization of financial issues reflect changes in society and their impact on personal lives. It is evident that issues related to dowry and its demands still remain under close scrutiny from both society and law enforcement.
