Lifting of Martial Law in Ukraine

National deputy Fedir Venislavskyi stated that holding elections in Ukraine is possible only after the lifting of martial law and the elimination of threats to the country's security and sovereignty. According to Venislavskyi, the lifting of martial law will be implausible while these threats exist. He also emphasized that much depends on Russia's actions and international support for Ukraine.

The next few months will be critical for assessing the situation. U.S. President Donald Trump needs to make a decision regarding Russia, and only after that can the real picture be evaluated. However, Venislavskyi noted that predicting Russia's actions is difficult, as it tries to influence all directions of Ukraine.

It is technically impossible to organize elections under the conditions of occupation of territories and the presence of millions of Ukrainians abroad. This could undermine the legitimacy of the election results. According to international law, elections can take place in the territory of Ukraine's diplomatic missions abroad, however, organizing voting for many citizens will be extremely difficult.

The current situation, characterized by the occupation of territories, lack of security, and the absence of equal conditions for participants in the electoral process, does not allow elections to be held without risks to the legitimacy of power.

Support from the USA

U.S. Special Representative for Ukraine, Kurt Volker, noted that conducting elections during martial law is a sign of a democratic state. However, Ukraine cannot do this now, as it contradicts its Constitution.
