Kolomyia Targeted by Explosion
According to TSN.ua: An explosion occurred at a Territorial Recruitment and Social Support Center (TRC) in Kolomyia in the early hours of February 18th. The blast happened at 01:15 local time. Preliminary reports indicate there were no casualties, though the building sustained damage. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) and the National Police are jointly investigating the incident. These centers are responsible for military conscription and supporting service members' families, making them sensitive locations.
A pre-trial investigation has been opened under Article 258 of Ukraine's Criminal Code, which covers terrorist acts. This attack is part of a concerning series of incidents targeting similar recruitment centers across Ukraine. In February 2025 alone, several other attacks were recorded:
- An explosion at a local TRC in Rivne on February 1st;
- A blast near the TRC building in Pavlohrad on February 2nd;
- An explosion near a TRC in Kamianets-Podilskyi on February 5th;
- An incident in Cherkasy where a man threw an explosive device.
Investigators are continuing to establish the circumstances of the event to identify potential perpetrators and prevent similar incidents in the future.
A Pattern of Attacks on Recruitment Centers
The Kolomyia blast fits into a disturbing trend of attacks on Ukraine's territorial recruitment centers. These incidents suggest an escalation of violence and a threat to national security. Active investigations and enhanced security measures are considered essential to prevent future attacks, which could have broader implications for the country's stability.
