Tragedy in Tenerife: storm wave claimed the lives of three tourists

According to ТСН: On the Spanish island of Tenerife, due to a strong wave that hit a popular tourist area near the Los Gigantes cliffs, three people died and several others were injured.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening when a sudden storm swept over a natural pool, sweeping holidaymakers into the sea.

It is reported that a 55-year-old woman, a 35-year-old man, and another man whose age is currently unspecified were thrown into the water.

Despite rescue attempts, none of these people could be saved. Another woman suffered from cardiac arrest; she was revived and airlifted to a hospital in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. A 39-year-old victim with moderate injuries was also hospitalized. It is known that another injured person received assistance at the scene.

The rescue operation, which involved the maritime service, medical helicopters, ambulances, and police, continued along the coastline, but no new missing persons were found.

Storm warning and ignoring prohibitions

The authorities of the Canary Islands had announced dangerous waves up to 5 meters high the day before, urging locals and tourists to stay away from the coast.

The mayor of the municipality of Santiago del Teide, Emilio Navarro, noted that the victims ignored warnings and barriers set up by police and the Civil Guard.

The origin of the deceased tourists is currently unknown. Locals note that a similar incident occurred about a month ago, in October 2025, when three people died in the municipality of La Guancha. At that time, 15 people were injured due to a series of dangerous waves.

It is worth mentioning that a seven-year-old girl hit a glass door at a hotel in Tenerife. She injured her leg, thinking that the door was open, and hit the glass. The fragments caused her numerous lacerations on her left calf, left knee, and right cheek.

This tragedy once again highlights the dangers that can arise during natural disasters, and the importance of adhering to government warnings. The authorities of the Canary Islands continue to monitor the situation to prevent similar incidents in the future.
