Soothsayer in Thailand Steals Client's Phone to 'Fulfill' His Prophecy.
According to ТСН: In Pattaya, Thailand, police arrested a soothsayer who stole a smartphone from a client to confirm his prediction about misfortune and the loss of a valuable item.
The incident occurred near one of the temples, where 38-year-old Udomsap Muangkaew was offering fortune-telling services. His victim was a 19-year-old girl named Pim, who noticed a man who looked poor and decided to listen to his forecast for the New Year.
Using cards, the soothsayer warned the girl about imminent misfortunes and the loss of valuable possessions, and also offered to 'neutralize' the negative events for a fee. However, Pim refused additional rituals.
After the conversation, the girl went to the temple to pray, leaving her iPhone nearby. Soon she realized that her phone was missing. Remembering the soothsayer's words, Pim returned to him and accused him of theft.
'The disappearance of the phone only confirms my prophecy,'
denied Udomsap Muangkaew, trying to describe an imaginary thief. The girl raised a commotion, and passersby sided with her. During a search of the soothsayer's belongings, Pim's iPhone was found hidden in a box of face masks.
After being exposed, the man began pleading not to call the police, claiming it was his first offense and he committed the crime due to financial difficulties. However, Pim decided to charge him to warn others against fraudulent schemes.
Pattaya police arrested the suspect and launched a further investigation.
This case highlights the importance of being cautious when approaching fortune-tellers and similar individuals. Such prophecies are not always safe — sometimes they can end in unpleasant situations. Patrols in the region continue to operate to prevent similar crimes and protect citizens from fraud.
