Extradition from Germany: a participant in the baby selling scheme detained in Ukraine.
According to ТСН: A participant in a criminal group who, under the guise of surrogacy, sold Ukrainian infants abroad has been extradited from Germany to Ukraine.
According to law enforcement, a large criminal scheme was uncovered in Kyiv in August 2023. Police detained two owners of private clinics in Kyiv and Kharkiv who were seeking women in difficult financial situations and offering them money to give birth to children from foreign donors. All of this was masked as surrogacy.
In the birth certificates of the children, the foreign client was indicated as the father, allowing him to legally take the child out of Ukraine.
The cost of such services for foreigners reached up to 70 thousand euros per child, while the women giving birth only received 12 thousand euros, which in many cases were never paid.
This criminal scheme involved 12 individuals, including translators, lawyers, medical workers, and managers. Several participants have already received sentences.
Extradition of the group participant
Recently, law enforcement discovered one of the participants of the criminal group in Germany and extradited her to Ukraine. The 50-year-old woman was responsible for selecting surrogate mothers, overseeing the pregnancy, and ensuring confidentiality to hide the illegal activities.
Police have charged the woman with several articles of the Criminal Code:
Part 4 of Article 28 — commission of a criminal offense by an organized group of individuals, part 3 of Article 149 — human trafficking and part 2 of Article 255 — creation, leadership of a criminal community or criminal organization, as well as participation in it.
The suspect is currently in custody, facing up to ten years in prison for participation in an organized criminal scheme.
This case reflects a serious problem of human trafficking in Ukraine and raises concerns about ethics in the field of surrogacy. Law enforcement continues the investigation of the case, trying to hold accountable all participants of the criminal network. In this context, it is important to pay attention to the protection of the rights of women and children to avoid similar cases in the future.
