Deadly Nighttime Assault at Former School

According to TSN.ua: A 72-year-old man has been arrested for the murder of five people in a former school building in the village of Sudobychi, Rivne region. The attack occurred around 4 a.m. during an argument, with the suspect using an axe and a hammer to inflict fatal injuries on the victims. This incident highlights the ongoing tensions and severe challenges faced by communities hosting internally displaced persons (IDPs) across Ukraine.

The victims, aged between 56 and 81, were all IDPs from the Donetsk region, with one woman originally from the Kirovohrad region. Since October 2025, seven people had been living in the repurposed school building. A seventh resident was not present during the crime, as he was receiving medical treatment elsewhere.

Upon arrival at the scene, patrol police discovered the bodies of five individuals with obvious bodily injuries, according to Ihor Kotsiubynskyi, the acting head of the investigative department of the Rivne regional police.

"This horrific event has caused widespread shock among local residents and law enforcement agencies, who continue to investigate the incident." - Taras Smaliuk, village head

This tragic case underscores the precarious situation of many displaced Ukrainians who have fled conflict zones in search of safety. The murder of five people within such a vulnerable population raises serious questions about the level of social support and security provided to IDPs, as well as the need for enhanced measures to prevent violence within communities.

Law enforcement authorities are conducting an investigation to establish all the circumstances of the event and to ensure justice for the victims.
