Valerii Zaluzhnyi's Stance Amidst the Ongoing War

According to TSN.ua: Valerii Zaluzhnyi, the former Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine's Armed Forces and now the nation's Ambassador to the United Kingdom, is maintaining a strict focus on military matters. He has stated he will not engage in political discussions for the duration of the war or while martial law is in effect, a principle he upheld by turning down offers of assistance from political consultants.

Rejecting an Offer from Paul Manafort

In the spring of 2025, Paul Manafort—the former chairman of Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign—approached Zaluzhnyi with an offer of his services. Manafort is a controversial figure, having been convicted in 2018 for undisclosed lobbying work for former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych; he later received a pardon from Trump after his first term ended.

In response to Manafort's proposal, Zaluzhnyi stated:

“I thanked him for his attention to me, but said I did not need his services.”
This firm refusal underscores the ambassador's current priority: the military conflict, not political maneuvering. His decision highlights a common stance among Ukrainian military leaders to avoid external political influence during the national crisis.

Zaluzhnyi's rejection of political consultations emphasizes the focused approach of Ukraine's military leadership on strategic and defense issues during the ongoing invasion. This position is widely seen as an effort to steer clear of political controversy and concentrate solely on national security, reflecting the immense pressure on the country's wartime leadership.
