Too Long: Scholz and Trump Discuss the War in Ukraine.
Scholz Spoke with Trump about the War in Ukraine and Security Policy in Europe
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had a phone conversation with new US President Donald Trump, during which they discussed security policy in Europe and the war in Ukraine.
This was reported by the spokesperson for the German federal government, Steffen Hebestreit, as conveyed by Radio Liberty.
According to the spokesperson, both leaders agreed that Russia's war against Ukraine has been going on for too long. They emphasized the importance of quickly achieving 'a fair, just, and sustainable peace'.
During the conversation, Scholz reaffirmed Germany's unchanged position on supporting Ukraine in its defense against Russian aggression 'for as long as necessary'.
It is worth noting that Trump promised during his election campaign to end the war in Ukraine within 24 hours. Recently, he stated that there has been 'some progress' in developing a plan to cease hostilities and assured that he would 'not abandon Ukraine' in efforts to resolve the Russian-Ukrainian war.
