Ukrainian Prime Minister Addresses Nuclear Energy Summit

According to UATV: At the Nuclear Energy Summit (NES2026) in Paris, Ukrainian Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko highlighted the severe threats to global energy security posed by Russia. She specifically pointed to the 2022 seizure of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant as a critical challenge to nuclear safety for Ukraine and the wider European continent. Svyrydenko stressed that the continued presence of an International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) mission at the facility is vital for mitigating the risks created by Russia's aggressive actions. This situation represents an unprecedented threat, as a nuclear facility has become a direct target and instrument of warfare.

Meeting with the IAEA Director General

The Prime Minister also held talks with IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi, focusing on the safety of Ukraine's nuclear installations. The IAEA has formally acknowledged the dangers stemming from Russian attacks on the Ukrainian energy grid, underscoring the urgent need for sustained international support on these issues.

'Ukraine has gained unique experience in operating nuclear power plants under wartime conditions and is ready to share it to strengthen Europe's energy resilience.' - Yuliia Svyrydenko

Svyrydenko's address in Paris underscores the acute relevance of nuclear safety during an armed conflict and the critical importance of international cooperation. Given the persistent threats from Russia's military actions, Ukraine's active role in global discussions is essential for ensuring regional stability. The country's commitment to collaboration and sharing its hard-earned expertise in nuclear energy could prove a significant step toward reinforcing Europe's overall energy security framework.
