Destruction of Ukraine's gas infrastructure
In particular, the publication Bild reports that as a result of Russian attacks, up to 60% of Ukraine's gas infrastructure has been destroyed. Occupiers regularly attack coal power plants, gas storage facilities, and substations, trying to create conditions for winter frosts in Ukraine.
The meeting between Volodymyr Zelensky and Ursula von der Leyen was dedicated to the topic of Ukraine's membership in the EU and energy support. The parties agreed on the implementation of agreements this week and further cooperation to support Ukraine.
The discussions with Ursula von der Leyen emphasize the importance of Euro-integration processes for Ukraine, especially in the context of aggression from Russia. Support from the European Union is extremely important for enhancing the country's energy security, especially considering the approaching winter period.
