According to Novyny.live: President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a decree granting the title of Hero of Ukraine to Colonel Valentyn Korenchuk, who died in action. This highest state honor was awarded in recognition of his exceptional courage and skill during wartime. Colonel Korenchuk was killed on April 27, 2024, while leading his squadron from the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade on a combat mission.
Korenchuk's Combat Legacy
From the very first hours of Russia's full-scale invasion, Valentyn Korenchuk was on the front lines defending Ukraine's skies. On the war's opening day alone, he flew five sorties, demonstrating an immediate and unwavering commitment to his country. Over his career, he completed more than 80 combat missions, logging approximately 300 flight hours. His record includes destroying dozens of enemy aircraft, cruise missiles, and drones, underscoring his vital role in Ukraine's air operations.
Korenchuk was also among the first Ukrainian pilots to train on French-made AASM-250 HAMMER precision-guided bombs and was a strong advocate for transitioning Ukraine's air force to modern F-16 fighter jets. His professionalism and dedication have left a lasting mark on Ukrainian military aviation history. He is survived by his wife and three children, who will remember him as a hero who gave his life for his homeland.
