Prisoner of War Figures Disclosed
According to Novyny.live: During a press conference in Munich on February 14, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy disclosed the number of prisoners held by each side. He stated that Russia is holding 7,000 Ukrainians, while Ukraine holds over 4,000 Russian personnel.
Ukraine's Readiness for a Swap
'The Russians have 7,000 of our prisoners, we have over 4,000 of theirs. This means we are ready to conduct an exchange. If they are ready for an 'all for all' swap—excellent. If it's a thousand for a thousand—not perfect, but good. Even if they are ready for 100 for 100—any step is a positive decision for us,' Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted.
This statement underscores Ukraine's ongoing efforts to repatriate its captured citizens and signals a willingness to engage Russia in dialogue on prisoner exchanges. Such swaps are a recurring feature of the conflict, often mediated by third parties. In the context of the protracted war and its severe humanitarian toll, securing the release of prisoners is a critical priority for Ukraine and a potential step to alleviate human suffering.
