Climate change affects the flowering season and increases pollen allergy

Climate change has a significant impact on the duration and intensity of the plant flowering season. This causes an increase in the number of people suffering from allergic reactions to pollen. In Europe, the duration of the flowering season has increased, and rising temperatures and humidity intensify allergy symptoms. Over the past 40 years, the amount of pollen released by plants has increased by 19% for grasses and 35% for birch. One of the reasons for this increase is the higher level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, which promotes more active photosynthesis in plants and increased pollen production. This is stated in a study published in the scientific journal Atmosphere.

Scientists also emphasize that pollen grains can interact with air pollutants and be impacted by thunderstorms and other extreme weather events, increasing the risk of respiratory diseases such as allergic rhinitis and asthma.

“We are constantly monitoring the pollen season. We are also beginning to observe pollen storms in Germany that are being carried north,” says Tyra Grove Krause, functional director for epidemiological readiness at Statens Serum Institut (SSI).

Additionally, climate change towards warming contributes to the increase of infectious and viral diseases. Warm and humid weather creates favorable conditions for mosquitoes and ticks that can transmit various exotic viruses to humans. Unfortunately, this leads to an increase in disease prevalence.

Heat and floods, which have become more common due to climate change, are resulting in many deaths. Flooding can lead to water contamination, resulting in the spread of infections.

Considering these facts, it is important to understand the impact of climate change on our health and take measures to prevent negative consequences.

The connection between obesity and body positivity

Many people are satisfied with their condition and embrace the idea of body positivity. However, endocrinologist Bohdana Murashova warns that body positivity can be harmful to health due to the risks of obesity. It is important to understand these risks and take care of one's health.
