EU Foreign Ministers Gather in Bucha: Kyiv Urges Ratification of Tribunal Agreement for Russia.
Securing Global Backing for the Special Tribunal
According to UATV: Ukraine is pushing for broader international ratification of the implementation agreement for the Special Tribunal on Russian aggression. Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha announced that on March 31, 2023, a meeting of EU foreign ministers will take place in Ukraine. During this gathering, Kyiv hopes to rally stronger global support for establishing the tribunal. This meeting in Bucha—a site synonymous with war crimes—carries deep symbolic weight for the push for accountability.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has also expressed hope that preparations for the tribunal on Russian aggression will be finalized in 2023. Sybiha emphasized:
“We are working to get as many countries as possible to confirm their participation—not just involvement, but actual ratification of the implementation agreement.”These statements underscore Ukraine’s commitment to international justice and holding the aggressor accountable.
The Stakes of International Support
Mobilizing global backing for the special tribunal is a critical step toward delivering justice to victims of aggression. A unified international front supporting Ukraine can also increase pressure on Russia and further isolate it within the global legal framework.
Successful ratification of the agreement by EU nations would send a powerful message in favor of justice and the unacceptability of war crimes.
