Ukraine Braces for Severe Winter Storm on February 15.
Weather Forecast for Ukraine on February 15
According to TSN.ua: Ukraine is set to experience a severe winter storm on February 15, bringing heavy snowfall, a dangerous glaze of ice, and a sharp drop in temperatures. Meteorologist Natalia Didenko reported that the cyclone causing this severe weather will move out of the region by February 16. She noted that western and northern areas will be hit hardest, with heavy wet snow, snow accumulation, and strong, gusty north-easterly winds.
Air temperatures across Ukraine will vary significantly by region:
- In the west and north, temperatures will drop to between -2 and -5 degrees Celsius.
- Central regions will see temperatures ranging from -1 to +6 degrees Celsius.
- In southern Ukraine, temperatures will be between +3 and +9 degrees Celsius.
- The Crimea region can expect milder conditions of +10 to +15 degrees Celsius.
Deteriorating Conditions in Kyiv
The capital, Kyiv, will also face a significant deterioration in weather conditions during the day on February 15. According to Didenko, the city will not escape the heavy snowfall and wet snow. While the cyclone is forecast to leave Ukrainian territory on February 16, dangerous conditions will persist until then, requiring public caution. Such winter storms are not uncommon for the region at this time of year, but their intensity can vary widely.
This severe weather is expected to significantly impact the country's transport infrastructure and road safety. Travel delays are anticipated, and power outages are possible due to snow accumulation on power lines. Authorities recommend avoiding non-essential travel in hazardous conditions and adhering to safety advice from forecasters. The situation in Ukraine may require enhanced emergency response measures from disaster services and local administrations to ensure public safety.
