Scheduled Power Outages Take Effect in Ukraine on March 21: Regions and Durations Detailed.
Ukraine's Planned Electricity Shutdowns
According to TSN.ua: Starting March 21, 2023, Ukraine will implement hourly power outage schedules across multiple regions. This measure follows Russian missile and drone strikes targeting energy infrastructure, which have forced authorities to ration electricity supply nationwide.
The duration of blackouts will vary by area, as outlined below:
- Kyiv region: between 1.5 and 2.5 hours
- Odesa region: 2 to 3 hours
- Mykolaiv region: roughly 2.5 hours
- Zaporizhzhia region: one-third of consumers will be exempt from outages
- Poltava region: power will be cut 2 to 3 times per day
- Kharkiv region: two consumer groups will see no scheduled outages
- Sumy region: electricity will be turned off only once daily
- Cherkasy region: outages lasting from 1 to 2 hours
- Zhytomyr region: three subgroups will experience 1.5 to 2 hours without power
Outage Schedules
Specific time windows for power cuts in different regions are as follows:
- Odesa region: outages from 17:00 to 19:00 and from 19:00 to 22:00
- Mykolaiv region: no electricity from 20:00 to 22:30 and from 16:30 to 20:00
- Zaporizhzhia region: outages from 15:00 to 20:00, from 10:30 to 15:30, and during evening hours
- Zhytomyr region: planned cuts from 17:00 to 19:00, from 19:00 to 20:30, and from 20:30 to 22:00
- Vinnytsia region: outages from 20:00 to 22:00 and from 18:00 to 20:00
These steps aim to maintain the stability of the power grid and reduce strain on energy networks amid ongoing challenges.
Introducing scheduled blackouts in Ukraine represents a critical response to the threat posed to energy infrastructure by military hostilities.
While these restrictions cause inconvenience for residents, their purpose is to preserve the overall functioning of the energy system. As power resources grow increasingly vulnerable, managing electricity consumption and ensuring supply stability remain top priorities for the state during this difficult period.
