Vitamin deficiency changes tastes and skin condition: how to recognize avitaminosis.
According to ТСН: Winter vitamin deficiency seriously affects health. If the body lacks the necessary trace elements, it can lead to a craving for bitter, spicy, or salty dishes. A change in taste preferences can also signal possible diseases.
Common signs of avitaminosis
Brittle hair and nails. These symptoms often occur due to a lack of biotin (vitamin B7). It is recommended to eat dairy products, cauliflower, spinach, broccoli, grains, and bananas. However, it is worth remembering that brittleness of hair and nails can also indicate anemia, so it is advisable to consult a doctor before starting to take vitamins.
Cracks in the corners of the mouth and chapped lips. This symptom indicates a deficiency of iron and B vitamins, which are found in legumes, starchy vegetables, nuts, and whole grain products.
Bruises on the legs. Vitamin A helps in the formation of collagen, which strengthens blood vessel walls. If bruises occur, it may signal a need for broccoli, strawberries, mangoes, or oranges. Bruises can also appear due to a deficiency of vitamin K.
Goosebumps on the elbows and back of the arms, or skin keratosis, occurs due to a lack of zinc and vitamin A. These elements are found in chicken, hummus, pumpkin, sweet potatoes, and melons.
Bumpy nails. A lack of stomach acid decreases vitamin absorption, so it is useful to add a digestive enzyme to food.
Restless legs syndrome, or Willis-Ekbom syndrome, manifests as a persistent desire to move the legs while at rest and problems with sleep. Magnesium can help.
Weakened immunity. To strengthen the immune system, it is recommended to consume vitamin C. If you notice one or more signs of avitaminosis, do not hurry to buy vitamins at the pharmacy — without proper nutrition, they will not bring the desired effect.
Do not try to replenish vitamin reserves all at once, as a healthy gut is needed for their absorption. Always consult a doctor to determine which vitamins or trace elements are lacking and to choose the correct dosage.
Vitamins play a key role in maintaining health, especially in winter months when the body suffers from a lack of sunlight and fresh vegetables. A balanced diet focusing on a variety of products can help strengthen immunity and improve overall condition. In case of prolonged symptoms, do not delay visiting a doctor.
