Kyiv may freeze within a day: which buildings will lose heat the fastest

According to ТСН: Due to enemy attacks, the capital's infrastructure has suffered significant damage, leaving a large part of the city without heating. With the sharp drop in temperature, the situation could become critical within the next day.

The head of the Ukrainian Renewable Energy Association, Stanislav Ihnatiev, warned about the risk of 'freezing the housing stock' in a comment.

Who will freeze the fastest

The rate of heat loss depends on the type of building and the materials used.

  • "Khrushchyovkas" (5-story buildings): the most vulnerable category. "A typical five-story building in such frosts, which begin on the night of January 10, will turn into a refrigerator within a day," said Ihnatiev.

  • Panel buildings (9-story buildings): the situation is somewhat better, especially if some apartments are insulated. Critical time is one and a half days.

  • New buildings (2015-2020): modern buildings have better energy efficiency and can maintain a livable temperature for up to three days. "If we do not restore heating within three days, these buildings will also start to freeze," emphasized the specialist.

Is there hope for local boiler houses

The expert noted that houses connected to small boiler houses can avoid collapse. They can provide districts with heat autonomously, but there is an important condition.

"The main thing is that the pumping group works and there is electricity," he noted.

It was also reported that the restoration of heating for part of Kyiv's multi-storey buildings is planned for this evening.

The situation in the capital raises serious concern, as the drop in temperature could lead to massive problems for residents. Restoring heating is a crucial priority, as it affects the comfort and safety of the city's inhabitants. It is now important for all relevant services to act cohesively and effectively to prevent critical consequences for the population.
