Life on the Front Line: Ukrainian Gunners Endure Without Rotation

According to TSN.ua: Artillery units serving on the Orikhiv axis face immense challenges, carrying out their duties under constant threat. The soldiers of the 65th Separate Mechanized Brigade have been deployed on the frontline for an extended period without any rotation, a situation that severely compounds the hardships of their service. Their dedication and willingness to sacrifice remain fundamental to Ukraine's defense. The Orikhiv sector has been one of the most intense and static areas of fighting in southern Ukraine.

Among the equipment in use on their positions is a field gun manufactured in 1968. Despite its age, this artillery piece remains a vital tool against the aggressor. Russian forces have attempted assaults on Ukrainian positions, supported by tanks, armored personnel carriers, and motorcycles. In such conditions, the soldiers must exercise extreme caution and ingenuity to preserve their lives and accomplish their missions.

Emotional Toll and the Hope of Homecoming

Life on the 'zero line' without relief is not only physically draining but also takes a profound emotional toll. Some of the soldiers have not seen their families for four years. As one serviceman notes:

"I've never regretted serving. But it's been four years without seeing my family. My wife raised our first son while I was in the Anti-Terrorist Operation Zone. Now she's raising our second while I'm here on the line. It turns out she does everything alone." - Serviceman

These words underscore the immense difficulties faced by military personnel and their families. Despite this, the soldiers hold onto hope for a return home. One shares his thoughts:

"Sometimes I think about how I'd like to walk through Kryvyi Rih—under the streetlights, in the evening glow... I want to go home constantly, to my family, like everyone does." - Serviceman

This commitment to duty, paired with a powerful longing for loved ones, makes these Ukrainian artillerymen exemplars of resilience and courage in wartime.

The situation on the Orikhiv axis illustrates not just the physical but also the severe psychological strains on Ukrainian troops. The prolonged absence of rotations affects the morale of the soldiers and their families, who also endure great hardship. The continuation of combat demands exceptional bravery and self-sacrifice from them, highlighting the critical importance of societal support and understanding.
