Strike on Poltava Region: Naftogaz Reports One Dead, Thousands Left Without Gas.
March 28 Attack on Poltava Region
According to TSN.ua: On March 28, 2023, Russian forces targeted Naftogaz facilities in the Poltava region, killing 55-year-old Roman Chmykhun, a process plant operator. This marked the second company employee death that same week. The assault damaged critical equipment, leaving thousands without gas—specifically 5,040 subscribers affected by the infrastructure hits.
A Naftogaz company representative stated: 'One of our colleagues was killed during an attack.'
Strikes also hit a residential building and industrial sites in the Poltava district, as reported by Vitaliy Dyakivnych. These events highlight the sustained and large-scale nature of the assaults, as this was the third consecutive day of attacks on gas extraction assets. The situation remains severe, with restoring gas supply to affected areas requiring major efforts.
These attacks on critical infrastructure underscore the deteriorating security environment in Ukraine and the aggressor's attempts to cripple the country's economy. A swift response from state and local authorities, along with rapid restoration work, is essential to provide affected communities with vital resources. Such strikes pose serious risks to the region's energy stability.
