Massive drone attack: Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia remain without electricity.
According to ТСН: During the night and morning, the enemy carried out a serious drone attack on energy facilities in several regions. As a result, by morning, most consumers in the Dnipropetrovsk region were left without electricity. The situation with energy supply was also challenging in Zaporizhia.
Ukrenergo reported that “Due to hostilities, there are also new power outages in Donetsk and Kharkiv regions. In all areas where the security situation allows, emergency recovery work is ongoing. Due to shelling, the situation in the energy system in Donetsk region is currently complicated, so emergency disconnection schedules have been applied.”
Electricity consumption
Electricity consumption corresponds to seasonal indicators. As of 9:30, its level was 1.9% lower than at the same time the previous day. The main reason for the changes was the significant number of disconnected consumers due to Russian shelling.
Weather consequences
Due to heavy snowfall and wet snow sticking in the morning, 83 settlements in Zakarpattia, Chernihiv, and Kyiv regions were completely or partially disconnected from electricity. Repair crews from the local energy company are working to restore the damaged lines.
It is worth noting that due to the attack from Russia around 22:00 on January 7, a massive blackout occurred in the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhia regions. The blackout in Zaporizhia lasted for about seven hours.
As a result of the problems with electricity in the schools of most settlements in Dnipropetrovsk, the holidays were extended. As of the morning of January 8, repair work continues, and more than a million subscribers remain without electricity and water supply.
This attack, along with the weather impact, created serious difficulties for Ukraine's energy system. In a situation where many people remain without electricity and water, the efforts of repair teams become particularly important. The extension of holidays in schools also indicates that power supply problems remain critical for the population.
