In Poland, recruitment of volunteers for the Ukrainian Legion has begun. As of October 4, 2024, 196 applications have been received from those wishing to join this formation.

This was reported by the Deputy Minister of Defense of Poland, Pawel Zalewski.

According to Zalewski, the recruitment is being conducted in Lublin at the base of the Consulate General of Ukraine. Citizens of Ukraine from all over Europe can join the legion. If it is possible to form the first group of several hundred volunteers, their training will begin immediately.

The Consul General of Ukraine in Lublin, Oleg Kuts, in an interview with the Polish portal I.Pl, talked about the conditions of service in the legion. According to him, the fighters will receive monetary rewards and undergo training under the guidance of the Ministry of Defense of Poland. After signing the contract and undergoing a medical examination, volunteers will be equipped and sent to the front.

Kuts also assured that legion participants will be able to "cross the border without problems" for vacation or rotation. He emphasized that this is a volunteer unit, and anyone interested can apply to the recruitment point "without any obligations."

Let us recall that the creation of the Ukrainian Legion was announced by President Volodymyr Zelensky after signing a bilateral security agreement with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Earlier, there were plans to form the first Ukrainian brigade in Poland, but later the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs Radoslaw Sikorski refuted this information, noting that it was not possible to recruit a sufficient number of volunteers.
