Borrell on Serbia: 'business as usual' with Putin's Russia is impossible.
The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell stated that Serbia must start aligning its foreign policy with the EU's position if it plans to become a member of the European Union. He made this statement during the presentation of the European Commission's report on the progress of candidate countries. The EU representative noted that Serbia, as a future EU member, must align its foreign policy with the EU's common political line, including joining European sanctions, and that the EU should have no doubts about Serbia's strategic course. In particular, he emphasized that Serbia cannot maintain business relations with Russia and rapprochement with China. 'New EU members must understand our strategic concerns in geopolitical circumstances... Lack of alignment of foreign policy can threaten membership,' Borrell stated.
