Poland’s Decision on Zelensky Draws Sharp Rebuke from Ukraine’s Top Official, Warning of Bilateral Crisis.
Kyrylo Budanov’s Criticism
According to Novyny.live: Kyrylo Budanov, the head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, has strongly condemned a move by Polish leader Karol Nawrocki concerning Volodymyr Zelensky. He cautioned that such actions could severely damage relations between Poland and Ukraine, calling for careful deliberation and renewed dialogue between the two nations.
Notably, on June 20, Zelensky returned an award to Warsaw, sparking criticism from the Ukrainian side. In response to the Polish leader’s actions, Budanov declined the Golden Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland. He stressed that if such decisions are to be made, it would be reasonable to first strip others of their honors—including Mussolini.
Budanov’s Statements
'I see this as immaturity. Above all, immaturity. I see it as immaturity among people in Poland,' Budanov said.
He also warned that tensions might escalate: 'This is not the peak yet, believe me. More will follow, as they say, if everyone does not pause a little.'
Budanov criticized Poland’s approach toward Ukraine, urging a more mature stance in the relationship between the neighboring countries. His remarks highlight the urgent need for dialogue and compromise to prevent further conflict in Ukraine–Poland ties.
This episode underscores the complexity of relations between Ukraine and Poland, which have a dynamic history of both cooperation and friction. It is crucial for both sides to find common ground to maintain regional stability, especially amid current challenges. The next steps taken by each country could significantly shape their bilateral ties and the broader political landscape in Eastern Europe.
