Russia launched 205 drones on New Year's Eve: Air Defense shot down 176 targets.
According to ТСН: On New Year's Eve, January 1, Russia attacked Ukraine by launching 205 strike drones of the types 'Shahed', 'Gerbera', and other drones.
This was reported by the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. The drones were launched from various cities, including Oryol, Bryansk, Kursk, Primorsk-Akhtarsk, Millerovo, Chaudi, Hvardeyskoye, and Donetsk. Among these 205 drones, about 130 were 'Shaheds'.
Repelling the attack
The attack by enemy drones was repelled by Ukrainian aviation forces, anti-aircraft missile troops, radio-electronic warfare units, and mobile fire groups. As of 08:30, air defense managed to shoot down 176 drones of the types 'Shahed', 'Gerbera', and others in the north, south, and east of Ukraine.
At the same time, 24 strike drones hit 15 locations.
'The attack is ongoing, several enemy UAVs are in the airspace. Follow safety rules!'– noted representatives of the Air Forces.
Damage to critical infrastructure
It should be noted that on New Year's Eve, Russia heavily attacked the Volyn region with 'Shaheds', threatening critical infrastructure facilities. As a result of shelling and fires, particularly in Lutsk and the Kovel district, 103,341 subscribers were left without electricity.
Additionally, just minutes before the New Year, Russian drones attacked the critical energy infrastructure of Odesa region, causing a fire at one of the facilities. This led to power outages for companies vital for Odesa.
Thus, New Year's Eve became not only a holiday but also a testament to the continuation of the aggression faced by Ukraine. The authorities are urging the population to adhere to safety measures and be prepared for possible new attacks, as the situation in the country remains tense.
