Cabbage Prices Hit Record Lows: What’s Driving the Market Shift.
White Cabbage Prices Drop Sharply
According to TSN.ua: In Ukraine, wholesale prices for white cabbage have fallen to an all-time low, according to daily monitoring data. Over the past weekend alone, the average cost dropped by 21%. Farmers are now offering cabbage at 3–9 UAH per kilogram (roughly $0.07–$0.20 per kg). This marks a staggering 84% decline compared to the same period last year. For context, cabbage is a staple in Ukrainian cuisine, so these price swings have a direct impact on household budgets.
Key Reasons Behind the Price Plunge
To put this in perspective, at the beginning of April 2025, white cabbage was selling for 35–42 UAH per kg ($0.80–$0.96 per kg). The dramatic price drop stems from several factors, including overall conditions in the agricultural market. Interestingly, global food prices have risen by 10–30% over the past decade, making this local decline even more notable.
Expert Mykhailo Nepran predicts that food prices in Ukraine will increase by an average of 10–20%, which could reshape the market’s pricing dynamics going forward.
As a result, consumers now have a chance to take advantage of low prices on white cabbage before a potential rebound. The current situation reflects a surplus of supply and weak demand, likely tied to seasonal harvest patterns and broader economic challenges. Shoppers should keep in mind the expert’s forecast of future price hikes, which might influence their purchasing decisions in the near term.
