Sleeping with the TV Leads to Obesity: Research by Scientists.
According to ТСН: Watching TV shows or series has become a popular way to spend the evening. However, it may lead to easily falling asleep while watching.
If this happens regularly, many develop an evening ritual that helps them fall asleep. People who have trouble sleeping often use the TV as a distraction and a method to doze off.
The Impact of TV on Sleep Quality
However, scientists emphasize that sleeping with the TV on can disrupt the body's biological rhythms and contribute to weight gain. Studies have shown that women who sleep with the TV on are more likely to suffer from excess weight compared to those who sleep in darkness.
This can be explained by the fact that melatonin regulates sleep phases, metabolism, and immune functions. Artificial light in the bedroom negatively affects metabolism, leading to increased body weight. Also, a disruption in the circadian rhythm contributes to the production of stress hormones that affect metabolism. As a result, the risk of developing obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes increases.
Research on Sleep Dreams
Shortened sleep cycles and lack of deep sleep phases are directly related to increased calorie consumption and decreased physical activity. Fatigue during the day often leads to higher intake of coffee and fast carbohydrates.
“Sleeping with the TV on is harmful because the light from the screen and sound disrupt the production of the sleep hormone melatonin, upsetting circadian rhythms, leading to shallow sleep and chronic fatigue,” researchers state.
It has also been previously reported that cutting out sugar may affect sleep quality. Thus, paying attention to sleep conditions and childhood routines can help improve sleep status and overall well-being.
