Psychologists Uncover the Connection Between Wall Color and Personality: What Your Choice Means.
According to ТСН: The choice of color for a room is important not only from an aesthetic viewpoint but also from a psychological perspective. A well-known expert analyzed the most popular interior colors and determined which personality traits influence the choice of certain shades for the walls of our home.
Professor of Psychology Jeff Beaty from Edge Hill University believes that selecting colors is a 'psychological question and not just an aesthetic one.'
'Numerous scientific and psychological studies show that color is not just a matter of taste. The shades that surround us affect our emotional state, cognitive abilities, social interaction, and sleep,' Beaty explained.
The expert emphasizes that wall color significantly impacts our daily lives, and this is much more than we can imagine.
Calm and Neutral Shades
When paying attention to wall colors, some prefer neutral shades.
'Neutral colors (whites, grays, beiges) have a low level of visual stimulation, which helps reduce sensory overload and stress,' explained Professor Beaty.
These colors also visually expand space, but there are also 'dangerous' shades.
'Cold grays or harsh whites can evoke feelings of sadness, especially in poorly lit rooms,' the expert warns.
Green and Blue
Professor Beaty points out that green is associated with nature, which helps restore energy and relieve fatigue. Blue shades, such as those of the sky and water, are calming. However, it is important that these shades are not too bright or gloomy.
'Data from psychological research shows that for long-term comfort, you should choose shades with low and medium saturation rather than overly bright colors,' said Professor Beaty.
He also noted that blue and dark green colors promote creativity and improve problem-solving.
Yellow Color
Yellow can be a good choice, but only for certain rooms.
'You probably should reserve warm, energetic colors for social or active areas in the house. Soft yellow can evoke cheerfulness, likely due to its association with sunlight, but saturated yellow can increase agitation,' Beaty explained.
Red Color
Red is not suitable for all rooms, and it is not recommended for workspaces.
'At first, a red interior may seem energetic, but it can quickly become distracting when you need calmness and a clear head to work,' noted Professor Beaty.
However, for a bedroom, this color can be appropriate, as it can ignite passion between partners.
Overall, the choice of wall color can significantly influence our sense of comfort and mood in a space. Therefore, when choosing a palette for your home, it is important to consider not only aesthetic but also psychological aspects that will help create a cozy and pleasant atmosphere.
