Official at Ukrainian Military Enlistment Office Charged After Brutal Assault on 60-Year-Old Man.
Violent Incident in Kovel District Raises Alarm
According to TSN.ua: Ukraine's State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) has brought charges against an official from the Kovel District Territorial Recruitment Center (TCC) for using excessive force against a 60-year-old man who was not subject to mobilization. The attack occurred on March 20 in the village of Zabolottia, Kovel District. The victim, who is not liable for military service, suffered serious injuries at the hands of TCC personnel.
According to reports, staff members of the recruitment center physically assaulted the man, resulting in a displaced fracture of his arm. In addition, one of the military personnel used a stun gun and sprayed pepper spray directly into the pensioner's face. The attackers also damaged the victim's vehicle by slashing its tires.
Official Response and Legal Proceedings
Medical professionals classified the victim's injuries as moderate severity. Consequently, the head of a unit within the Kovel District TCC has been notified of suspicion under Article 122, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. A court has imposed a preventive measure of house arrest. The State Bureau of Investigation continues its inquiry and is preparing charges against other individuals involved in the incident.
This case has sparked public concern over the conduct of military officials and the scope of their authority during the mobilization process. Incidents like this risk eroding public trust in these institutions and raise critical questions about the need for oversight of their activities. The ongoing investigation by the DBR aims to establish all the facts and ensure accountability for those responsible.
