Orban’s Hungary branded a ‘banana republic’ in blistering European Parliament attack.
Sharp rebuke for Viktor Orban
According to TSN.ua: German MEP Moritz Körner has launched a fierce criticism against Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, accusing him of aligning with Russia and China, fostering corruption, and enacting legislation that harms European businesses. Körner stated that under Orban’s rule, Hungary has become one of the poorest and most corrupt nations within the European Union. He also noted that the Hungarian opposition party 'Tisza' has managed to strengthen its lead over the ruling 'Fidesz' party.
Deception and growing concern
In his remarks, Körner highlighted what he called Orban’s deception of his own people.
“You claim to champion national sovereignty, yet you invite Chinese police to monitor people in your country,”the MEP declared. He further alleged that
“you have turned Hungary into a banana republic. You have robbed your population and enriched your family and friends.”Körner emphasized,
“What a deception. What a burden for your people.”
Separately, the European Union has postponed approval of a credit plan for Hungary worth over €16 billion, reflecting mounting unease about the country’s economic situation under Orban’s leadership. These developments underscore increasingly critical attitudes among European politicians toward Hungary’s governance policies.
Körner’s critique highlights growing dissatisfaction among European leaders with Orban’s policies, which are isolating Hungary on the international stage. The delay in the credit plan also signals that EU financial support may be at risk unless the country reforms its domestic political and economic practices. This could have serious implications for Hungary’s future within the European integration framework and the stability of its economy.
