Two emotions steal years of life: The Lancet study revealed the risks.
According to ТСН: According to a new study published in the September issue of The Lancet Regional Health - Europe, there are two emotions that can significantly shorten life expectancy.
These are chronic depression and constant anxiety. Their persistent presence in daily life increases the risk of premature death from cardiovascular diseases and reduces overall life expectancy.
What worsens the situation
Depression and constant anxiety trigger biologically harmful processes in the body: inflammation levels rise, and the stress hormone cortisol becomes activated. This creates increased strain on the heart and blood vessels, making them more vulnerable to diseases.
Researchers found that constant feelings of anxiety and sadness increase the risk of heart attack and stroke by 41%, and the overall mortality rate is about doubled compared to people without such emotional burdens.
According to the authors of the study, the negative emotional state affects physiology so deeply that even a healthy lifestyle and proper nutrition cannot compensate for the damage caused by prolonged depression or constant fear.
How to protect yourself from destructive emotions
To maintain health and avoid serious complications, experts advise:
Regularly undergo examinations - monitor the state of the endocrine system and gut microbiome.
Share your experiences - keep a journal or discuss fears with professionals.
Move daily - running, swimming, yoga lower cortisol levels and improve mood.
Organize space for positivity - workplace and home should promote positive emotions and minimize stressors.
Practice relaxation and mindfulness - breathing exercises, meditation, and mindfulness techniques help reduce stress levels.
Healthy eating - a diet rich in omega-3s, magnesium, and B vitamins supports mental and physical health.
Following these recommendations can help strengthen health, reduce the impact of constant stress, and prolong life while remaining an active and energetic person.
In today's world, where stress and anxiety have become common companions, it is important to be aware of their negative impact on our health. These research findings confirm that emotional state is directly linked to physical well-being, so it is worth taking steps to maintain harmony in life.
