Former US Ambassador Calls for NATO Troops to be Deployed in Ukraine: What He Proposes.
According to inkorr.com: Gordon Sondland, the former US ambassador to the European Union, urged Western countries not to succumb to Russian threats and to work more actively on strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities. He believes that deploying military contingents on the territory of the country is essential. In an interview with Newsmax, he emphasized the need for a strong response in the event of an attack on these forces.
“I think we need to deploy those troops there. And if they are fired upon, I think we need to take off the gloves and give Russia a truly strong response," the diplomat stated.
Sondland also strongly criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin's approach, describing it as one-sided and unacceptable. According to him, the Kremlin's strategy involves continuous aggression, seizing territories, and dictating the terms of peace.
“Putin's concept is that he can continue to shoot, while Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky cannot shoot... This is absolutely unacceptable," he emphasized.
Potential Attack on Military Personnel in Ukraine
In the former diplomat's opinion, a possible attack on Western troops in Ukraine should be regarded as a declaration of war. He noted that Europe will likely have to bear the main burden of a direct response, while the United States will provide weapons, intelligence, and strategic support.
“That would be a declaration of war. And perhaps it needs to be declared... But we will provide weapons, intelligence, strategy," he added.
Sondland separately mentioned Donald Trump's attempts to incentivize Moscow with economic preferences, which did not change Putin's position.
“Any sane leader of the Russian Federation would agree... But that is not enough for Putin - he wants all of Ukraine, and he will not get it," the former ambassador concluded.
Gordon Sondland called on Western countries to more actively support Ukraine in defense matters and not to pay attention to Russian threats. He emphasized that in the event of an attack on military forces in Ukraine, a quick and decisive response is necessary.
Sondland's speech underscores the critically important position of Western countries regarding support for Ukraine in the face of threats from Russia. His calls reflect the necessity not only of strengthening defense capabilities but also of clear coordination of actions among European allies and the US to ensure stability in the region. Understanding the seriousness of the situation could be crucial in future policies regarding security and the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
