Former Armenian Defense Minister Detained in Central Moscow - Media.
A former Armenian defense minister, Arshak Karapetyan, has been detained in Moscow. Russian media reports this.
Karapetyan was detained in central Moscow on December 29. He was wanted by law enforcement agencies in Armenia. It is unclear whether this detention is related to the reason for his search.
Earlier, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan explained the reason for Karapetyan's resignation, stating that he did not report the invasion of Azerbaijani troops into Armenian territory while he was the minister of defense. Arshak Karapetyan subsequently denied the information about his detention, claiming that he was invited for a conversation by the police and left shortly thereafter.
Arshak Karapetyan served as Armenia's Minister of Defense for several months in 2021. After his resignation, he led the opposition movement 'All-Armenian Front' and proposed the establishment of a southern military bloc together with Russia, Armenia, and Iran.
Additionally, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that his country's officials would suspend visits to Minsk following the self-proclaimed president of Belarus's statements supporting Azerbaijan in the Karabakh conflict.
Alexander Lukashenko and Nikol Pashinyan also clashed during a meeting of the Eurasian Economic Union's highest economic council.
