The Energy System of Ukraine in Crisis: Why Power Outages Will Last Even Longer.

According to ТСН: The situation in Ukraine's energy system has significantly worsened due to the destruction caused by Russian attacks.

The acting head of the State Energy Supervision Aнатолій Замулко reported that currently all available generating capacities are operational. The system demonstrates fairly high levels of electricity production. However, the problem is not in the volume of generation, but in the ability to transmit this energy to consumers.

Transportation Issues

The damaged infrastructure complicates the stable transmission of electricity in the required volumes. As замулко noted, this forces energy workers to implement hourly power outages.

Cooperation with the European Union

To maintain the balance of the energy system, Ukraine has established mechanisms for electricity flows with EU countries, and if necessary, imports electricity. However, according to a representative of the State Energy Supervision, consumption restrictions will remain in place until the damaged networks can be restored.

A Harsh Winter

Let us remind you that the Minister of Energy Максим Тимченко reported that this winter will be one of the toughest in Ukraine. Due to attacks on power plants, people may be without electricity for 15–20 hours. Occupants are actively attacking DTEK stations.

Causes of Outages

Expert from the Institute of Energy Research Юрій Корольчук explained the reason for the power outages. Russia is trying to exhaust the resources of Ukrainian nuclear power plants, which are currently the backbone of the country's energy resilience. To avoid systemic accidents at nuclear units, it is necessary to resort to power outages.

In the context of aggression and destruction, it is extremely important for Ukraine to maintain energy stability. Cooperation with the European Union is becoming increasingly relevant to ensure electricity supply during emergencies. The upcoming winter, with its cold temperatures, will bring new challenges, but the energy sector continues to seek solutions to support the country's viability.
