European Protocol in "Diia" from 2026: how to document accidents without police.
Documenting accidents through "Diia"
According to ТСН: Starting from 2026, drivers in Ukraine will have the opportunity to document road traffic accidents (RTAs) using the "Diia" application without involving police and unnecessary paperwork. This has become possible due to a new regulation adopted by the government.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyridenko noted:
"The government has adopted a regulation that enables the launch of a full cycle for documenting the European protocol in the Diia application. Starting from the first quarter of 2026, drivers will be able to document accidents without calling the police and without any paperwork - right at the scene of the incident."
Thanks to "Diia", the system will automatically upload all necessary data from state registries - driver's documents, vehicle registration certificate, and insurance policy. This will reduce the risk of errors that previously led to insurance claim denials.
To document an accident, it will be enough to take a few photographs, agree on the information with the other participant in the event, and sign the European protocol through "Diia.Signature".
Users will be able to track the status of the processing without the need to visit the insurance company. This new service will provide prompt resolution of issues at the accident scene and reduce the burden on the police.
In particular, following the first AI hackathon Diia.AIContest, new services may appear in the "Diia" application, such as photo and geolocation solutions for documenting parking violations, as well as an AI translator for official document validation.
It is expected that the launch of this service will be a significant step towards simplifying the process of documenting accidents. Drivers will be able to quickly and easily resolve situations on the road, which will undoubtedly have a positive impact on the overall level of safety and driving comfort in Ukraine. In the future, new technologies may further ease the lives of car owners by offering additional conveniences and features.
