The Cabinet has determined which military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine must know English.
The government has approved a list of positions for military personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine who must know the English language. These conditions will come into effect 4 years after the termination or cancellation of martial law in Ukraine. This was reported by the representative of the Cabinet of Ministers in the Verkhovna Rada, Taras Melnychuk.
According to the government decision, these requirements will apply to positions in the following state structures: the State Special Transport Service, the State Guard Administration, the SBU, the Foreign Intelligence Service, the State Service of Special Communications and Information Protection, the Border Guard Service, and the National Guard.
It should be recalled that the Verkhovna Rada adopted law No. 9432 regarding the use of the English language in Ukraine. The decision was supported by 236 people's deputies. According to a member of parliament, the law secures the status of the English language as one of the languages of international communication in Ukraine.
Moreover, the Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal presented a national program for popularizing the English language in our country: it is planned to make it accessible to every Ukrainian.
Earlier, Zelensky proposed that the Rada grant English the status of a language of international communication in Ukraine. The draft law provides for the official consolidation of the status of the English language as one of the languages of international communication in Ukraine, the definition of categories of positions for which candidates must know the English language. It also provides for mandatory study of the English language in kindergartens and passing the state final certification in English at schools. In addition, financial assistance for learning English will be provided.
