Powerful Floods in Asia: Over 400 Dead in Indonesia, Thailand, and Sri Lanka.
According to ТСН: In three countries of Southeast Asia – Indonesia, Thailand, and Sri Lanka – floods and landslides have claimed the lives of nearly 440 people. Hundreds of individuals are missing.
Situation in Indonesia
Indonesia has suffered the greatest losses – 174 dead, and a significant part of the west of Sumatra island remains disconnected.
Lost Lives in Thailand
145 people have died in Thailand, where the water level rose to three meters. Rescuers in Indonesia and Thailand are facing huge challenges due to the lack of electricity and communication in some areas.
Situation in Sri Lanka
In Sri Lanka, over 130 individuals are missing, and at least 123 people have died. In total, floods have affected about 400 thousand people, with more than 40 thousand forced to leave their homes.
Local authorities warn of a possible increase in the number of casualties, as rescuers still cannot reach many remote areas. The scale of the disaster is driven by climate change.
The situation has been complicated by prolonged monsoon rains and a tropical storm that has passed through the region.
Weather Conditions in Other Regions
Recall that the powerful storm Claudia caused damage in Portugal, parts of Spain, Ireland, and the United Kingdom. As a result of the bad weather, three people died, and dozens were injured.
These tragic events in Southeast Asia highlight how rapidly the climate is changing and how these changes affect people's lives. In regions where natural disasters have become a frequent occurrence, there is an increasing need for effective disaster response measures and adaptation to new conditions.
