Expert: Kyiv's Power Supply Secure, But Major Heating Crisis Looms.
Power and Heating Supply Situation in Kyiv
According to TSN.ua: Kyiv will not be left without electricity even in a worst-case scenario, but major cities continue to face severe heating problems. Volodymyr Omelchenko, Director of Energy Programs at the Razumkov Centre, stressed that the situation with thermal power generation is far more critical than with electricity supply. This comes as Ukraine's energy infrastructure remains a target following the full-scale invasion.
Omelchenko noted that a certain amount of electricity will remain available under the most severe conditions. However, he emphasized the urgent need to resolve issues related to heating. The Troieshchyna district of Kyiv is in a critical state due to a lack of centralized heating, causing significant concern among residents.
Modular Mini-Boiler Houses as a Potential Solution
The expert believes modular mini-boiler houses could provide a way out of this crisis. He cautioned, however, that questions remain about how long this equipment will take to reach Kyiv and how lengthy the installation process will be. Thus, while the city can secure its electricity, the heating issues demand immediate resolution.
Heating problems in large cities, particularly Kyiv, could have serious consequences for the population, especially during the cold season. Despite a stable electricity supply, the absence of centralized heating may lead to social tension and protests. The solution proposed by Omelchenko requires rapid implementation to prevent further complications in the city's essential services.
